Nico Schlotterbeck has been closely associated with a move to BVB for weeks. After the Bundesliga defeat of SC Freiburg against FC Bayern (1:4), the coveted central defender spoke about his sporting future and gave the fans from Breisgau renewed hope of staying.
“There is definitely a possibility that I will stay here, I feel very comfortable here,” Schlotterbeck told Sky. “If I have the feeling that I’m taking the next step here, then I’ll stay here.”
The 22-year-old is contractually bound to SC Freiburg until 2023. But due to his steep development, the defender has long been associated with larger clubs such as FC Bayern and BVB.
Rumors annoy Nico Schlotterbeck “brutally”
The ongoing speculation goes too far for Schlotterbeck. “There’s a bit too much talk about me and not enough about SC Freiburg,” said the DFB newcomer: “The club is so big that it shouldn’t just be talked about me. All players deserve it. It annoys me brutal now.”
First Schlotterbeck would like to finish the season. He doesn’t yet know what will happen next. A solution will be found together with the sports club, says Schlotterbeck: “We’ll see if it’s good for Freiburg.”
FC Bayern and BVB traded as possible buyers
BVB in particular is said to be very interested in Schlotterbeck’s commitment. According to media reports, the possible transfer fee is 20 to 30 million euros.
FC Bayern is also repeatedly mentioned as a possible buyer, as the Munich team lost a defender in Niklas Süle to BVB after the season.
However, the record champions in Schlotterbeck should not see the hoped-for emergency aid at the top level, “Sport Bild” recently reported.
