In the past few weeks and months, there have been initial rumors of transfers surrounding several summer newcomers to FC Bayern. Now sports director Hasan Salihamidzic has spoken a word of power.
Although full-back Noussair Mazraoui only signed a long-term contract with FC Bayern last year until 2026, the Moroccan was last traded as a possible farewell candidate. Rumors arose mainly after the 25-year-old openly criticized his short playing times under coach Thomas Tuchel.
First he was brought into play by “calciomercato” at Juventus Turin. According to “Tuttosport”, he was then even offered by his advisor at Juve and other top clubs.
Bayern Munich’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic cleared up any speculation after the 6-0 win against FC Schalke 04 in the Noussair Mazraoui case. “Brazzo” assured the Munich “Abendzeitung” that a sale of the right-back, who came from Ajax Amsterdam on a free transfer in the summer, was out of the question in the summer.
Noussair Mazraoui, also because of Alphonso Davies’ injury, is now one of the regulars in Thomas Tuchel’s team.
Salihamidzic postpones decision on Cancelo’s future
Salihamidzic also raved about the defender, who had again been given the starting eleven on the right side against Schalke 04. “He’s played very well in recent weeks and repaid the coach’s trust. Today he scored. If you look at what’s going on in the full-back market, we’re very happy to have him. Great class!”
Praise also went to left-back Joao Cancelo, who Salihamidzic loaned from Manchester City in the winter. The Portuguese also “had a very good, stable performance again today, he is a top player, technically a feast for the eyes”.
Thanks to a contract clause, FC Bayern can sign the 28-year-old for 70 million euros – a sum that the Munich team is likely to find too high. However, it is possible that Salihamidzic is negotiating with Manchester City in order to commit Cancelo to a lower price.
“We haven’t decided yet, we haven’t even talked about it yet,” said the Bayern squad planner when asked about Munich’s plans: “We’ll do that after the season.”
