Understanding coach reaction
In anger with the TV critics, coach Thomas Tuchel receives “full support” from the board of FC Bayern Munich. “Why shouldn’t he be allowed to defend himself if he feels he has been treated unfairly? Every person has the right,” said CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen to the “Kicker“. “But completely independent of this, the team has shown what they are capable of and now it is important to maintain this mentality and continue to work with focus and concentration. That has always distinguished FC Bayern.”
Tuchel teased the TV experts around the 4-0 win by the German record and series champions at Borussia Dortmund. In an interview with the TV channel “Sky”, Tuchel had a verbal duel with Lothar Matthäus and presenter Sebastian Hellmann. Matthäus and fellow expert Dietmar Hamann had previously expressed criticism of Tuchel and the team after Munich’s exit from the DFB Cup at third division team 1. FC Saarbrücken (1:2). Tuchel also teased at the press conference after the BVB game.

“It is absolutely understandable that criticism is being expressed after our cup exit. But as I’ve said before: It’s not the coach alone who loses, we lose together and we win together,” emphasized Dreesen, who has been in charge of the board since the end of May as Oliver Kahn’s successor. “I’m very surprised at the way the criticism has been received over the past few weeks.”
Dreesen pointed out Munich’s good first phase of the season. “We made our best start to the Bundesliga in seven years and won every game in the Champions League. The fact that everything is then reduced to the cup defeat and that victories are spoken ill of is absolutely not okay,” said the 56-year-old. “It’s completely understandable that Thomas Tuchel won’t let this slide, and he has our full support.” In 2015/16, FCB won the first ten league games under Pep Guardiola and scored all possible 30 points – the record champions are currently second in the table behind Bayer Leverkusen 26 points.
