Last week it was decided that FC Bayern and head coach Thomas Tuchel would end their collaboration after the end of the 2023/2024 season. Now CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen has revealed further background information on this decision-making process.
In an interview with “Bild”, the 56-year-old reported on how the direct contact between him and the Bayern coach took place last week, which ended with the mutual wish to separate next summer.
“I had a good conversation with Thomas over lunch on Tuesday. It was about many things, not just the early separation in the summer: how he sees his situation, how he assesses the team, the analysis that Thomas also talked about “I also explained my perspective to him. We created clarity together,” Dreesen reported of a conversation in a good atmosphere.
At the end of the conversation it was clear that from the summer onwards things would no longer continue together with the German record champions and Thomas Tuchel in the coaching bench.
Contrary to speculation to the contrary, Dreesen emphasized that he did not insist on an immediate separation this spring: “We have decided – as described in the press release – to separate amicably in the summer. Everything else – such as the alleged offer to immediately Separation is nonsense.”
Dreesen: “We can still achieve something”
Following the one-on-one conversation, Tuchel first had contact with his coaching team, and then the team was informed together by him and CEO Dreesen.
“It was important to me that we spoke to the team together. The fact that we did this before training was a short-term decision. But the team should find out about the decision from us, not from the media. I made the players responsible because There is no one to blame in this situation,” Dreesen revealed further details in the newspaper report.
From now on, according to Dreesen, the remaining months will be about getting the most out of a season that has already been messed up in terms of sport: “But I also appealed to the fact that we can still achieve something and that we will never give up. With a view to the Champions League : We really want to reach the quarter-finals in the second leg against Lazio.”
