FC Bayern: Bayer Leverkusen loan Josip Stanisic

Without purchase option

Bayer 04 Leverkusen announce completion and loan Croatian international Josip Stanisic from FC Bayern Munich. The 23-year-old defensive all-rounder should gain match practice with the “Werkself”, which he has largely been denied under Thomas Tuchel at the record champions. However, as recently reported, a purchase option is not part of the agreement.

Stanisic, who tripled his market value last season, is under contract with Bayern until 2026. While he still played regularly under Julian Nagelsmann, this has changed under Tuchel: since the end of March, the World Cup participant has only played four games. He has played 41 games for FC Bayern across all competitions, ten of which he played the full 90 minutes. The non-nomination for the squad at the Bundesliga opener against Werder Bremen according to “Bild” reporter Tobias Altschäffl been “a hard blow” for Stanisic.

Bayer coach Xabi Alonso can now draw on full-back positions: Alejandro Grimaldo (27) on the left and Jeremie Frimpong (22) are likely to be set first, Stanisic and Arthur (20) can play on both sides. The Bayern loan also suits the Spaniard’s back three, where he can help out on both the right and left as a centre-back.

“Josip Stanisic is already very experienced in the Bundesliga and Champions League, he is technically strong, intelligent, has both feet and can play in several defensive positions,” said Bayer’s sporting director Simon Rolfes about the new signing. “With Josip’s commitment, the competition in our squad will be intensified again. He is a very ambitious player who will continue to improve the quality of the squad.”

Stanisic described Leverkusen as “a very attractive prospect. The team is packed with top players and my discussions with the club have given me a lot of motivation. You have clear ideas and an extraordinary environment here. I’m really looking forward to the Werkself – for me they were one of the most exciting teams in the Bundesliga last season.”
