FC Bayern announces Davies diagnosis

FC Bayern’s 3-1 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday was marred by concerns about left-back Alphonso Davies, who had to be substituted shortly before Munich’s third goal. A few hours later, the German record champions announced a diagnosis.

“Alphonso Davies suffered a strained medial ligament on his left knee in the Bundesliga game against Borussia Mönchengladbach (3-1) on Saturday. This was revealed by an examination by FC Bayern’s medical department after the game. The left-back has to take a break,” it said in a message published by FC Bayern on Saturday evening.

However, the report leaves it open how long the said “break” will be. However, according to “Sky”, an appearance in the Bundesliga summit against league leaders Bayer Leverkusen (February 10th, 6:30 p.m.) is “extremely questionable”.

“Phonzie twisted his knee and now needs to be examined,” Tuchel explained immediately after the win against the Foal team and added worriedly: He would have “no words” if Davies was injured again. The Canadian left-back was just on the way back to better form.

Davies has already missed large parts of the 2022/23 season. Recently, critical voices regarding his performance have increased.

FC Bayern is hoping for a duo to return

FC Bayern fans can, however, have hope that an important duo will be available again against Leverkusen: Joshua Kimmich and Dayot Upamecano.

They will definitely try, but ultimately everything depends on how the midfield leader and the central defender perform in the coming week of training, Tuchel emphasized.

In addition, the series champions are still missing the long-term injured Serge Gnabry (hamstring injury in the left adductor area), Bouna Sarr (torn cruciate ligament) and Daniel Peretz (injury to the medial ligament in the right knee). Min-jae Kim is out of the Asian Cup due to his participation with South Korea.
