In the past few months, Thomas Tuchel and Dietmar Hamann have repeatedly clashed publicly. So it’s no wonder that the TV expert wanted to share his opinion on the decision to change coach at FC Bayern on Wednesday.
The collaboration between Tuchel and the German record champions was ultimately “a misunderstanding,” Hamann opened his latest column for “Sky.”
Record national player Lothar Matthäus had previously made similar comments. “When a coach is new to a club, either the results or the game should improve within four weeks. Neither was the case with Tuchel,” complained Hamann.
Julian Nagelsmann’s successor has “made some dubious statements” since taking office, the 50-year-old added: “For example, he was ‘in love with the team’, and after the cup exit against Freiburg in April 2023, he didn’t know why his team had lost.”
At the same time, Hamann expressed understanding for Tuchel’s difficulties in Munich: “I think he didn’t have the feeling that he could exchange ideas on equal terms at Bayern. If Tuchel had a problem, who should he have gone to?”
Hamann: FC Bayern “lacks sporting competence in the executive suite”
In this context, Hamann sharply criticized Tuchel’s direct superiors at FC Bayern.
“After the game against Schalke, CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said: “Müller always has to play.” Tuchel did not know such a statement from England or France. In other countries it is not the case that a CEO comments on the line-up,” the ex-professional clarified.
Hamann continued: “With Dreesen, a financier is leading the board, which has never happened before at FC Bayern. There is a lack of sporting competence in the executive suite and the new sports director first had to find his feet. The lack of leadership in the last few months has current situation. Bayern have to think about that too.”
