FC Barcelona: Will Dembélé stay? Advisor “ready to talk”

2022 among the best preparers

It was the big posse in the January transfer winter: Ousmane Dembélé and his expiring contract with FC Barcelona. The club and the 24-year-old’s advisor, Moussa Sissoko, argued publicly about an offer that was later withdrawn, the high salary demands of the players and a possible change. There was even speculation that new Barça coach Xavi could put the French winger in the stands until the end of the season. Far from it: Dembélé has thrived under the former Blaugrana captain – and that’s why extra time is now back on the table.

During the week, the journalist close to Barça was the first to have it Alfredo Martinez from Onda Cero reports that the club contacted Sissoko and arranged a meeting. The “L’EquipeThe advisor confirmed this: “We are ready for talks again.” According to the French newspaper, the salary is of course still the sticking point. In order to reach an agreement, Dembélé would have to revise his demands downwards. According to reporter Gerard Romero there should be a new offer soon, but lower than in winter.

Barcelona’s President Joan Laporta recently emphasized this. “We made him an offer and he didn’t take it. We love him and see him as a good player. If we reach an agreement, it will be within the salary limits that we have set for ourselves. I say that with respect, but the agent (Moussa Sissoko; ed.) is full of surprises. It made us a little dizzy,” Laporta said.

Possible to stay at FC Barcelona? Xavi as a key factor for Dembélé

It is thanks to Xavi’s work that both sides present themselves in a much more friendly manner. He rehabilitated the former Dortmunder, whose transfer fee has now increased to 140 million euros thanks to bonuses. Since Xavi’s arrival, Dembélé has been less injured and has one goal and seven assists in 13 games since the start of the year. In Europe’s top 15 leagues, only four players have assisted a team-mate more often than the 2018 world champions in the new year. Therefore, it seems, the big story of winter remains in suspense into summer.

does last tuesday mean the day before yesterday?
So I’m extremely pleased that Dembele himself took this step with such energy and urgency and put pressure on his advisor to extend the contract. despite all the fuss, i really want to have him here, just like xavi.
from fc barcelona’s point of view this is of course going perfectly, as dembele made the first move first and thus weakened their own negotiating position. but we shouldn’t…
