FC Barcelona is in the midst of a change. Some players have already left, others should still leave. One of them is apparently Luuk de Jong. And supposedly there is already a buyer.
After just four months, the “FC Barcelona” chapter could be over for Luuk de Jong. As reported by the Spanish sports newspaper “Mundo Deportivo”, the Dutchman will be released in January. De Jong has hardly played a role under new coach Xavi in the past few weeks, having only started once in eight games.
The 31-year-old should be taken off the payroll to make room for Ferran Torres, who is about to move from Manchester. You can find more about this transfer here.
De Jong is actually still on loan from Sevilla FC until the summer of 2022, but Barça are allegedly planning to transfer this deal to Cádiz FC. The clubs have already agreed, only de Jong himself is still lacking approval.
A short interlude
The striker had only moved to Barcelona on August 31st to replace Antoine Griezmann, who joined his ex-club Atlético Madrid. De Jong could hardly meet the expectations of the Catalans, but with his style of play and his strengths hardly fit into the Barça system. Former trainer Ronald Koeman put some hopes in his compatriot, but used him less and less over time.
Should de Jong actually leave, he would end his time in Barcelona with twelve appearances and one goal. In Cádiz he would play in the penultimate La Liga, which is the second weakest offensive with 15 goals. With his experience and the quality of his degree, he could bail out the Andalusian club.
