FC Barcelona takes the VfL women apart in front of a record crowd, NDR-Sport – NDR – Regional

On Thursday, the women from Wolfsburg were still busy taking photos in the football temple of Camp Nou – and posted them on social media. On Friday, however, they were often just amazed guests. “Barca” showed world class right from the start, completely overwhelmed the VfL defense in the almost full stadium and loud spectators.

In the tenth minute – the hosts were just celebrating the 2-0 – Almuth Schult drummed up her teammates. In a circle, the goalkeeper, who was by far the best “she-wolf”, tried to wake up the team. But her words died away quickly. Barcelona were simply two classes better that evening – it was 20:3 in the end after shots on goal. The second leg on April 30 in Wolfsburg should only be a side note.

“Barca” burns off offensive fireworks

The Wolfsburg back four with Joelle Wedemeyer, Kathrin Hendrich, Dominique Janssen and Felicitas Rauch were no match for FCB’s powerful and imaginative attacking game. A long pass was enough and Aitana Bonmati scored to make it 1-0 (3rd).

Former Hamburger Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic chased the ball away from VfL captain Janssen seven minutes later. After her pass, Caroline Graham Hansen hit a hook, letting her former team-mate Wedemeyer fold and Schult with a well-placed left-footed shot had absolutely no chance of defense – 2-0.

Svenja Huth misses a double chance to connect

Given the dominance of ‘Barca’, it’s unlikely that Svenja Huth could have really changed the course of the game. But at least for a short time, the Wolfsburg women also showed their skills: Sveindis Jonsdottir moved in from the left. Jill Roord immediately forwarded her passport to Huth. Irene Paredes Hernandez cleared the shot by the German national striker before the line. Goalkeeper Sandra Panos (15th) parried the margin.

VfL defense is much too fast

It was a brief glimmer of hope – nothing more. VfL coach Tommy Stroot decided not to make any major changes, hoping his players would be able to counteract this with their attacking style of play. A misconception. “Barca” quickly picked up speed again and in the 33rd minute Jennifer Hermoso Fuentes already scored the 3-0. The fourth goal went to world footballer Alexia Putellas (38th).

Jill Roord scores a consolation goal for Wolfsburg

Barcelona also got drunk on their own strength after the break. But a very narrow offside decision after a goal (50th) and Schult, who saved everything that could be saved, prevented the 5:0. And suddenly the ball was in the net on the other side. Tabea Waßmuth was able to pick up the pace once through the middle and freed Jill Roord. The Dutch woman scored to make it 1: 4 (70th), which counted thanks to video evidence.

Perhaps this result would have left a little hope for the second leg. And as a result, Schult almost surpassed himself. But five minutes before the end, Janssen conceded a penalty that Putellas converted safely to the final score. The Wolfsburg women can already concentrate on the championship and the cup.
