Debt continues to fall
FC Barcelona presented record figures for the 2022/23 financial year on Thursday. According to the Catalans, the Spanish champions have improved in all areas of business and recorded higher numbers than expected.
According to the report, the net profit is 304 million euros. Last season, Barça generated operating revenues of 1.26 billion euros. The Catalans were also able to reduce net debt for the second time in a row: from 680 million euros as of June 30, 2021 to 552 million euros as of June 30, 2023.

The Barça board was convinced that it would be able to finish the current year with green numbers, although the move from the Camp Nou, which is currently under renovation, to the smaller Olímpic Lluís Companys stadium resulted in a decline in income due to the reduction in season tickets and regular ticket sales will come. The club therefore wants to further reduce the salaries of professional athletes while ensuring competitiveness.
FC Barcelona referee affair: Spanish police search association
Meanwhile, the Spanish police searched the premises of the national football association RFEF on Thursday in the affair surrounding payments of millions from FC Barcelona to a referee official. On the orders of the investigating judge Joaquin Aguirre, officials visited the offices of the association’s referee committee in Madrid, the state TV station “RTVE” and other media reported, citing the judiciary. A spokesman for the Guardia Civil police unit confirmed this information upon request. No arrests are planned, it said.
The investigation began in March after a complaint from the public prosecutor’s office. Between 2001 and 2018, the Catalan club transferred a good 7.3 million euros to the then deputy head of the CTA referee committee, Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira. Investigators suspect that these payments were intended to favor Barça in the referees’ decision-making.
It’s official: Barcelona exceeded its profit forecast from last year and made a whopping profit of 304 million euros after taxes. This result is 30 million euros above the budgeted profit from last year’s annual report (see below).
The operating income ultimately amounted to 1.259 billion euros, the operating expenses were 1.165 billion euros (operating result of 94 million euros). Net debt is 680 million euros (as of June 30, 2021) a …
The complaint was directed against Enríquez Negreira and the club as well as its former presidents Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu as well as other ex-Barça officials. Both club representatives and Enríquez Negreira admitted the business connections, but at the same time rejected the accusation of corruption. Barça’s current president Joan Laporta said the club had used consultancy services. But that was “very normal in football at the big clubs,” he asserted.
Enríquez Negreira was an arbitrator in the Spanish upper house from 1977 to 1992 and then vice-president of the CTA from 1994 to 2018. The 78-year-old assured in interviews that as CTA vice-president he did not give FC Barcelona preferential treatment in any decision or referee appointment. His company “Dasniel 95 SL” gave the club verbal advice, for example how the players should behave depending on the referee.
