A little over two weeks after the transfer deadline on Deadline Day missed by 18 seconds, Julián Araujo still made it: the right-back is a FC Barcelona player. The Catalans announced this on Friday evening. The 21-year-old has signed a contract with Barça until 2026. The three-time Mexico international is initially scheduled for the third division reserve, where Araujo will start training under compatriot and Mexico legend Rafa Márquez in the next few days.
Due to a “system error”, the notification of the Araujo transfer was received 18 seconds too late on January 31st. FIFA then showed no goodwill. Barça then turned to the Spanish Sports Court TAD to register the player, a decision is pending. Failing that, Araujo would have to wait until next season to make his Barcelona debut.
