FC Barcelona grabs internationals

The financially stricken football club FC Barcelona has strengthened with the Spanish international Marcos Alonso.

As the Catalans officially announced on Friday night, the left-back has signed a one-year deal with a €50m release clause.

Already in the early evening, the club of German national goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen shared a video on Twitter in which the left-back entered the Barca training ground and ran to his new teammates – less than 24 hours after terminating his contract with English top club Chelsea.

On Thursday, the club of team manager Thomas Tuchel ended the cooperation with Alonso by mutual agreement. Shortly before, striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who had switched from Barcelona to the Tuchel team, had taken the opposite route.

Alonso (31), who had gone through the youth department of the Spanish record champions Real Madrid, switched from Fiorentina to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2017. The attacking left-back played 212 competitive games for Chelsea, in which he scored 29 goals and 23 assists.
