FC Barcelona: Dani Alves is leaving for the second time – official departure

Goal: World Cup 2022

FC Barcelona and veteran Dani Alves have gone their separate ways for the second time in their careers together. After initially several Spanish media reported that the Catalans would not renew the expiring contract with the 39-year-old Brazilian, Alves confirmed his farewell on Instagram in the evening.

“It’s not a farewell where I don’t first thank all those who are behind the spotlight, all those who make our cause perfect, all of them,” wrote the right-back. “I would also like to thank all the staff for giving me the opportunity to come back to this club and be able to wear this wonderful jersey again. You don’t know how happy I am. I hope they won’t miss my crazy nature and my daily bliss.”

He left it open whether the 125-time national player will also be a professional footballer by the age of 40, on May 6, 2023 – his declared goal is the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Alves returned to Barça last November after around five and a half years to be a support for the emerging talents in a financially difficult phase. Since then he has made 16 appearances, scoring one goal and three assists. Another title, from 2008 to 2015 the former 35.5 million purchase with the Blaugrana won 23 official trophies, was not granted to him.
