FC Augsburg’s double transfer: Finn Dahmen and Patric Pfeiffer come

First newcomers 2023/24

After 15 years, goalkeeper Finn Dahmen’s (25) time at FSV Mainz 05 has come to an end. Rheinhessen’s homegrown player is moving to league rivals FC Augsburg on a free transfer. The Wiesbaden native’s contract runs until June 30, 2026 and includes an option to extend it by a further year.

Dahmen had already made it public two weeks ago that he would be leaving his training club, only the goal was still open. In addition to the people of Fuggerstadt, FC Schalke 04, Hertha BSC and PSV Eindhoven were traded as potential buyers.

“After a long and enjoyable time in Mainz, I would like to take the next step for myself. I would like to gain more match practice and establish myself as the number 1 goalkeeper in a Bundesliga club. The talks with those responsible at FC Augsburg and the prospects for the club that they showed me were very convincing. That’s why the change feels absolutely right and I’m looking forward to the new challenge in a new environment. I can’t wait to start preparing and be on the pitch with the team,” said the keeper about the FCA move.

“We have been watching Finn Dahmen and his development with interest for a long time. When the opportunity arose to get him excited about FCA, we jumped at it,” said Stefan Reuter, Augsburg’s sporting director, adding: “Finn Dahmen is a young and ambitious player who fits our vision. He is determined and hungry, but also has a lot of experience. We are convinced of his abilities and are pleased to be able to win him over to continue his path with us.”

Fix: Darmstadt’s Pfeiffer is also moving to FCA

Central defender Patric Pfeiffer from Bundesliga promoted Darmstadt 98, who has been courted by several clubs, also joins the Augsburgers. As TM reported earlier in the week, the 23-year-old centre-back has signed a contract that runs until 2027.

“I had a great time in Darmstadt, which was crowned by promotion to the Bundesliga. It’s often said that you should leave when it’s most beautiful: I’m doing that now and I’m looking forward to a new chapter in my career in Augsburg. The talks with those responsible at FCA convinced me that I have the best conditions here with an established Bundesliga club to go down the path together in the Bundesliga,” said Pfeiffer.

Reuter announced: “We are proud that we were able to convince Patric Pfeiffer of FCA despite the great interest from other clubs. With him we get one of the best defenders in the 2nd division, who will help us to achieve our goals in the coming years with his speed, tackle skills and header skills.”

Dahmen and Pfeiffer are FCA’s first two newcomers for the coming season. At the same time, the Bundesliga club announced that the 19-year-old goalkeeper talent Marcel Lubik had been given a long-term professional contract until June 30, 2026 plus an option.
