New role in the background
Stefan Reuter has drawn a positive conclusion from his time as managing director of FC Augsburg. Everyone at the Bundesliga club can be proud and happy with how the club has developed, the 56-year-old told the “Kicker“. “We have a very good infrastructure, have paid off the stadium and are playing in the Bundesliga for the 13th year in a row,” explained the 1990 world champion.
Reuter retired last week after almost eleven years as managing director and will only be available to the club as a consultant in the future. “The timing was right to hand over responsibility,” said the former national player. “I am totally at peace with myself and super happy with the decision, which was only logical in the course of the realignment.”
The Fuggerstadt team only expanded their position last summer and brought in Marinko Jurendic (45) as a sports director from FC Zurich. “We have gained quality in the management bodies,” said Reuter, who celebrated fifth place in Augsburg in 2014/15, the best placement in the German upper house of football and thus his entry into the Europa League.
FC Augsburg under Stefan Reuter: Significant increase in squad value
The manager’s transfer balance since the 2013/14 season shows a loss of 22.41 million euros. While the manager bought players for 160.06 million euros, footballers were sold for 137.65 million euros. The record entry since 2021/22 has been striker Ricardo Pepi with a transfer fee of 16.36 million euros, while the most expensive departure in eight years has been Abdul Rahman Baba with 26 million euros. The squad value has increased significantly since January 2013. While the team was once worth 40.5 million euros when Reuter started, it is now valued at 120.95 million euros.
