Maaßen successor
FC Augsburg has presented Enrico Maaßen’s successor. The Fuggerstädter’s new head coach will be the Dane Jess Thorup, who was active with the Danish U20 and U21 national teams and won the Danish championship at club level with FC Midtjylland and FC Copenhagen and the cup with Esbjerg fB. In the meantime, the 53-year-old was under contract with KAA Gent and KRC Genk in Belgium.
“We are pleased that in Jess we were able to attract a football expert and person to the FCA who has been a head coach at the highest level for many years and has a lot of experience at national and international level,” said FCA sporting director Marinko Jurendic about Thorup, who signed a contract until June 2025. “Jess has proven in his previous positions that he can both develop players and lead teams to success,” said Jurendic.
Managing director Michael Ströll explained: “We are very pleased that Jess Thorup sees his path at our FCA. We are convinced that in him we have found an experienced and renowned coach who can stabilize our team in the short term and with whom we will be successful together. During our conversations with him, we quickly realized that Jess was very well informed and was eager to work in Augsburg and in the Bundesliga.”
