Calculated minus
FC Augsburg ended the 2022/23 season with a loss of almost 9 million euros, a record loss in its time in the Bundesliga. As the Swabians announced at the general meeting on Tuesday, there was a deficit of 8.83 million euros. The FCA had previously been in the black for years and only suffered small losses during the Corona period.
According to the club, the loss was consciously taken into account, among other things because some top athletes were not sold. As a result, the FCA foregone potential transfer income. In addition, depreciation of almost 19 million euros was cited, which resulted from investments in players from the past.
Calculated over five years – including the Corona period – Augsburg made a small profit. Managing director Michael Ströll explained that only a few clubs in Germany are as economically stable as the FCA.
Overall, the Swabians generated income of around 90.5 million euros last season. Sponsorship income of a record amount of almost 22 million euros contributed to this, among other things. The TV income of a good 45.1 million euros accounts for almost half of the total turnover. Expenses amounted to 99.4 million euros and were therefore significantly higher than a year before. The association also attributed this to increased costs for service providers or inflation.
