FC Augsburg: Change from Sergio Córdova to Vancouver Whitecaps fixed

Back to the MLS

Now it’s fixed: Sergio Córdova leaves FC Augsburg and switches back to Major League Soccer. The 25-year-old will play for Vancouver Whitecaps FC, with whom he has signed a contract until the end of 2025 with an option for a further year. According to the “Augsburger Allgemeine”, the fee is 2.1 million euros.

Córdova, who signed from Caracas FC for €1m in 2017, played a total of 79 games for the Fuggerstadt team, in which he scored seven goals. Last year, the forward was loaned out to MLS club Real Salt Lake City, for whom he netted 11 times in 35 games. RSL, who had the right of first refusal, will receive Vancouver’s 2024 MLS SuperDraft first-round pick and $200,000 as part of the transfer. Another $100,000 will be added if Córdova plays at least five competitive games by the end of 2024.

“Sergio Córdova signaled early on that he would like to continue playing in MLS. After we were able to sign a lot of quality on the offensive in winter, we wanted to give him this chance in Vancouver, especially since the economic conditions of the change suit us. We wish Sergio Córdova every success in the MLS for the future and all the best personally,” said sporting director Stefan Reuter.
