FC Amsterdam success coach Pim van de Meent (84) passed away

Pim van de Meent passed away at the age of 84. He was, among other things, trainer of DWS, FC Amsterdam and AFC Amsterdam. He achieved the greatest successes with FC Amsterdam and he was flown in several times at AFC to help the club out of the fire.

Van de Meent, who comes from The Hague, started his coaching career in 1969 at PEC Zwolle. After a year he left for DWS where he worked until 1972. That was the prelude to his period of success at FC Amsterdam. In 1974 he guided the former Amsterdam professional club to fifth place in the Eredivisie and a season later he reached the last eight in the UEFA Cup. Internazionale, among others, was then eliminated by FC Amsterdam.

After six seasons at FC Amsterdam, his coaching career led him past De Graafschap, NEC Nijmegen, MVV Maastricht and ADO Den Haag. Van de Meent could be found several times at Sportpark Goed Enough. In the late 1990s and early this century, he fulfilled the task of interim trainer at AFC Amsterdam several times. After his period as head coach, Van de Meent became sports park manager at the Amsterdam amateur club.

In his active career as a football player, Van de Meent played for Holland Sport, DOS, VUC and NEC Nijmegen.
