Fazer puts K18 candy on sale

Fazer launches the world’s hottest Turkish peppers.

Fazer is selling the Tyrkisk Peber candy pack intended for adults only, which contains very hot Turkish peppers.

– This is a challenge package with six pieces shaped like classic fur sweets, which have been given a little extra kick. Or quite a lot, says Fazer Makeinte and Fazer Suomen’s communications director Liisa Eerola.

Turkisk Peber the world’s hottest candies use an extract with a heat rating of 900,000 on the Scoville scale. This is equivalent in heat level to about three habanero chilies.

The mildest Turkish pepper in the package is Fiery green pepper. Scorching orange pepper is a degree hotter. The world’s hottest Turkish pepper is the red candy in the package, and it goes by the name Infernal red pepper.

The challenge pack is only sold to adults, and the pack is marked “for adults only”.

– The age limit control is a precaution agreed with the store, so that no one accidentally consumes a hot product, Eerola states and says that there are clear warnings on the packaging.

– With warnings, we want to indicate the groups of people for whom Fazer does not recommend the product. With the warning texts, we aim to ensure that the product is used responsibly, and that no one eats the extra strong fur by accident. Capsaicin extract can cause strong physical sensations in some people.

The candies will be sold in selected S-markets and Sale stores, and it is a limited batch.

Fierce challenges became a phenomenon

Fazer is not the first company to get involved in fiery challenge products. Fierce challenges have been trending on social media recently.

In Finland, the last time the challenges came to the fore was at the end of 2023, when the Hot Chip Challenge, advertised as the hottest chip in the world, was sold in a package of one. The Food Agency quickly banned the sale of crisps in Finland, as it considered that the product does not meet the food safety requirement.

Eerola says that Fazer has been in contact with the food inspection agency in advance regarding the super hot Turkish peppers.

– The hottest candy contains about 670–750 milligrams of capsaicin per kilogram, the other two have a lower amount. According to the information we received from the authorities, the amount is significantly lower than in the recalled product. According to the risk assessment carried out by the German authorities, the limit of dangerous capsaicin concentration is 6000 milligrams per kilogram.
