Before the duel with a tournament co-favorite France, the national coach comments on the opportunities of the German team. And must contradict his French colleague.
National coach Christian Wück has set the German footballers for the European Championship quarter-finals for an “uncanny force and speed” of the French. “We have to be prepared for this, but we also know that we have the same strengths in the team, also on the offensive,” said Wück at the press conference before the showdown on Saturday (from 9 p.m. in the live ticker at T-online) in Basel.
It will therefore be crucial “who gets a grip on which offensive”. The 52-year-old did not want to reveal whether and what changes he would do with his team, but all 22 players were operational. “It is important that we are not throwing everything over the pile now,” said Wück and called the three chain in the second half against Sweden (1: 4) again as a “option”.
The DFB selection worked out the disappointment from the last group game last Saturday, “euphoria and the will” were noticeable before the first KO game. The favorite role nevertheless preferred to pushed Wück to the French women, who had completed their group phase with nine points.
The establishment of the French national coach Laurent Bonadei, as a European champion, was favored by Germany as an eight -time European champion. “It is a completely new generation. For me, the achievements of this European Championship count,” emphasized the national coach.
From Elisa Sense’s perspective, the unusual outsider role even “gives momentum to go into this game with a free head”, as the midfielder explained. “We can cut everything in and just make the best of it.”
