Fault at Schiphol baggage system: KLM calls on you to leave suitcases

KLM passengers who fly to Schiphol and transfer to another flight there, have to do so without suitcases today. Due to a malfunction in part of the baggage system at Schiphol, KLM is refusing to check in the suitcases of customers who fly to their final destination within Europe via Amsterdam.

The malfunction brought down part of Schiphol’s baggage system last night and was repaired the same evening. An airport spokesperson says he does not know how long the disruption lasted and in which part of Schiphol, but it is clear that the magnitude is large enough to saddle a large part of the transfer passengers with a problem. They now sometimes have to leave their bags in a foreign country.

On the KLM website, the company calls on travelers who transfer at Schiphol to and from a European destination to only do so with hand luggage. We also apologize for the inconvenience. Anyone who clicks on the notification will be none the wiser: the visitor is redirected to the webpage where the now well-known story about the chaos at Schiphol is told by KLM and rebooking options are offered.

get rid of

According to a KLM spokesperson, the company has taken the measure to get rid of as many suitcases as possible that were left behind at Schiphol due to yesterday’s failure.

KLM offers travelers who do not want to travel without luggage the option of being rebooked.
