Fatoni’s “Wonderful World” – one track, one album, one tour

Fatoni has announced that he will release his eighth (or tenth – depending on how you count) album WUNDERBARE WELT on May 19th. The title song and the accompanying video, which were released on February 17, offer an audio sample and a first insight into the topic. Dexter and Torky Tork, two big names in the Munich band’s orbit, produced at least this track and probably others.

The video shows: The “Wonderful World” is somehow boring. A bit of radio propaganda, the same irrelevant questions, ingrained patterns of discourse and the relevant questions all sound painfully similar. The various film references the video throws the rapper into, mostly from the ’90s, perhaps represent a nostalgia for simpler times or simpler stories. But perhaps also criticism that these milestones of pop-cultural relevance, which asked and negotiated the “big” questions, are still a background noise of the “wonderful” contemporary world. As if the Matrix, Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction, and Fight Club just couldn’t be escaped. Aldous Huxley’s 1932 dystopian Brave New World is also reminiscent. Another one of those classics that intellectually fills the void that cinema presents without visitors. Simulacra as far as the cinema hall can see. Fatoni, himself an actor, is always involved and this alienation opens up the view of what is already there. A feature rapper does what a feature rapper does.

Parallel to the release of his 14-track successor to DELIRIUM, which was released in 2021, the open-air season starts and with it the tour “Wonderful World Premiere”. Between May 19th and June 30th Fatoni will present his WUNDERBARE WELT live on five dates.
