In 2017, Tommy became Yuna’s father. When Tommy’s partner goes to visit relatives in Lithuania 2.5 years ago with their daughter, they stay away. Yuna has been kidnapped. Tommy tries to fight it for years, but to no avail. In kidnapped can be seen how he breaks when he talks about his daughter. “Losing a child is simply the worst thing that can happen to you.”
Finally he can see his daughter
Together with John van den Heuvel, Tommy tries to get his daughter back. They visit Tommy’s now ex in Lithuania and without a camera and an interpreter Tommy is allowed in for a while. After the visit, he takes a seat in John’s car again and reports on the moment with his daughter. Then it all becomes too much for him. Sobbing, he tells how shocked he was when he saw Yuna again. “She has no front teeth at all, they have completely rotted out,” he says. “This isn’t swapping, this is rotting away.” John van den Heuvel is shocked by the photo of the girl. “This is not an exchange, no”, he agrees. “Then you will of course be scared to death.”
The door was locked
Tommy also had a nice afternoon with his daughter. Yuna recognized her father immediately. And the two played in her bedroom for a while. “The door was locked behind me,” Tommy says. “You immediately feel super uncomfortable, but I kept myself big for Yuna.” Apart from the beautiful father-daughter moment, the journey is tough for Tommy. It is impossible to reach an agreement with his ex and without Yuna or future prospects he has to return home.
Waiting for the judge
The trip to Lithuania has a huge impact on Tommy. Two months later, he is still very emotional when he has to talk about Yuna and the loss. But he is also hopeful. His ex is being prosecuted by the Public Prosecution Service and there will be a court decision. “Very nice”, Tommy responds.
Also good news
Fortunately, despite everything, there is also good news in his life. Tommy has remarried and his wife is 12 weeks pregnant. “Despite everything that is going on, I just have to have a life and enjoy it,” he concludes.
