Father of deceased teammate files lawsuit

When Jalen Carter was picked ninth overall by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2023 NFL Draft, it seemed a difficult time for the highly talented defensive lineman to be over. Now, however, Carter has to answer one more time before a court.

The reason for this is a lawsuit recently filed against Carter. The plaintiff is Devin Willock Sr., father of Carter’s former teammate of the same name. Devin Willock Jr. died in January in the accident in which Carter was involved as a driver.

The plaintiff is not just limiting his claim to Jalen Carter, the University of Georgia and the dealership that provided Carter with the car are also being accused. A total of 40 million dollars in damages are in the room, a quarter of which Willock is trying to sue from Carter.

Carter had already been convicted of his involvement in the accident and was sentenced to a fine and community service.

In addition to Devon Willock Jr., two women from another car were also killed. Carter, a Georgia supervisor and ex-player Warren MClendon survived injured.

The Philadelphia Eagles choose Carter

As a result of the accident, Jalen Carter struggled with mental problems. The defensive player was also not in good physical condition. At the Georgia Bulldogs Pro Day, Carter had a lot more on his ribs than he had months before.

He even had to stop some position drills because he wasn’t in the right condition. As a result, he slipped significantly on the draft boards of many experts, although almost everyone saw him as far ahead of the talent.

Carter, however, continued to bet on himself and confidently only met teams that got to pick in the top 10. He was right, as the Philadelphia Eagles even traded up a spot to pick Carter in ninth place.
