Father Martijn misses first goal from son Mexx Meerdink: “Need you as a striker”

After six minutes, Mexx Meerdink gave his team Jong AZ the lead in the home match against TOP Oss. A goal that the 20-year-old striker needed, because it was only his first of the season. “Finally again, I’ve been looking forward to it for a long time.”

“This is just what you need as a striker,” says a happy Mexx Meerdink afterwards. Partly thanks to his goal, Jong AZ won 3-0 at home against TOP Oss. “As a striker you are horny for the goal and if you don’t score for a long time, a goal like this is nice.”

Father-son

Unfortunately for father Martijn Meerdink, he had to watch his son’s goal later on images, because the former AZ right winger was stuck in a traffic jam and therefore missed the opening phase of the game and therefore also his son’s goal. Yet Meerdink junior received a warm hug from his proud father.

Jan Sierksma was also happy. The trainer recently noticed that his pupil was longing for a goal. “That makes sense, because he is a striker and has not scored yet. And I spoke to Mexx before the match about the ‘ketchup bottle theory’ so let’s hope this also applies to him.” Last season, Meerdink scored eight goals for Jong AZ.
