A 25-year-old man from Vught will spend ten years in prison for killing his 4-month-old daughter. The judge in Den Bosch decided this on Thursday afternoon.
The four-month-old baby was severely abused several times. The girl suffered internal bleeding and broken ribs, among other things. The public prosecutor demanded fourteen years in prison.
‘Baby limp’
The baby was found to have brain damage, broken ribs, lung bruises and bruises in her skull and eyes. According to experts, the child was probably punched, grabbed forcefully, shaken or beaten with a belt or cord.
Some injuries were weeks old, others only hours old when the girl died. The night before the girl was found dead, the father was home alone with her. At that time, he searched Google with terms such as “baby limp and won’t wake up.”
“I’m a young father, looking up some information to learn doesn’t hurt, right?”, the father explained two weeks ago. “She slept a little deeper than usual, but soon woke up and I gave her a bottle.” It is not clear which form of violence ultimately killed the girl.
Under the control
After the prison sentence, the man may remain under supervision. The man still denies that he is responsible for the fatal injuries. The court finds that the man downplays his role and that he unfairly shifts the blame to his partner.
For example, the man states that there was good reason why he sometimes became angry. The man also did not want to cooperate in investigations into his personality.
“It is also important to note that the suspect abused his partner several times, even when she was heavily pregnant with their child. Shortly after the birth, he again threatened abuse,” the court wrote.
The father must pay almost 52,000 euros in compensation to the girl’s mother.
