Fat million deal? Jürgen Klopp hot for Gladbach star

Borussia Mönchengladbach’s midfield jewel Manu Koné has probably also aroused the interest of Liverpool FC from the English Premier League.

As “Sport Bild” reports, team manager Jürgen Klopp’s club has entered poker for the 22-year-old Frenchman. Liverpool’s interest in the Gladbach professional is “real and big”, according to Konés.

Liverpool’s new sports director Jörg Schmadtke, whose commitment the Reds confirmed on Tuesday, could lead the negotiations with Borussia.

But even before Schmadtke took office at Anfield, Liverpool is said to have inquired about the conditions of a possible transfer. Accordingly, Gladbach is calling for a fee of between 40 and 45 million euros for Koné.

Positive from Gladbach’s point of view: The contract of the courted top talent, which is dated until June 30, 2025, allegedly contains an option for the club to extend it by one year, which can be drawn without conditions. Borussia therefore has good arguments on its side in the transfer negotiations.

Gladbach needs transfer proceeds

But it is also clear that Gladbach is dependent on transfer proceeds in order to make a squad change after a disappointing season.

Two new centre-forwards, an attacking winger, a left-back and, in the event of a departure, a successor for Koné should be on the shopping list for the foal elf,

Koné is said to have already closed the Gladbach chapter. According to the report, it is clear to him that he wants to move in the summer after two years on the Lower Rhine.

Gladbach signed Koné in early 2021 for nine million euros from his training club FC Toulouse, but initially loaned him back to the French for six months. The final step into the Bundesliga followed in the 2021/2022 season.
