Fast Retail boss Tadashi Yanai becomes Uniqlo CEO

The Japanese retail group Fast Retailing Co. Ltd. has announced changes at the top of its clothing retailer Uniqlo.

Fast Retailing founder Tadashi Yanai will assume the role of chief executive officer (CEO) at Uniqlo alongside his duties as executive director and chairman, Fast Retailing announced on Monday. Meanwhile, he is handing over his previous position as Uniqlo President to Daisuke Tsukagoshi, who previously served as global CEO for Uniqlo’s day-to-day operations and as a member of the board. Tsukagoshi will also serve as the brand’s Chief Operating Officer (COO).

The reason for the restructuring is the high business goals and the desire to accelerate the growth of the global business, according to the announcement. In this context, the management structure is to be further strengthened by creating a team that brings together managers from the various markets.

The changes at the top of Uniqlo are scheduled to take effect from September 1st.
