For these days, in the beginning of summer 2023the fundamental lines of what will be seen between the beach, the city and the night of the next months. Of opposites and volumes

Although it is not the first year that it appears, this season the comeback trend of the ’90s unfolded in all its splendor. According to the image consultant and personal shopper Gabriela Gurmandi, the strongest rules of that decade are all back: “a lot of denim, cargo pants, crop tops, very low waist in jeans, skirts and maxi skirts, crochet, mesh, ‘skorts ‘ or what at the time was called skirt pants ”, he details.
As for the jean, this summer it will be seen both in its most elegant versions, with appliqués and embroidery, as well as in the simple beauty of wearing a good pair with a white tank top. It is used in vests, pants, jumpsuits, dresses, bralettes (top-type bodices), jackets and is combined from morning to night, even in total looks. “Zara launched a denim corset with buttons on the front that was all the rage,” recalls the expert. Of course, if a tone must be chosen, it better be the most worn version possible, as dictated by this season’s fashion.
Cargo pants come hand in hand with the military style, which also brings its many pockets to jackets, jackets and skirts. Tailored vests are another vital point of the season. They can be paired with pants in a full outfit or with jeans, a mini, or over a dress. And speaking of minis, it’s impossible to ignore the return of low-waisted boards, or “skorts”, which are worn very short and with crop tops.
As regards fabrics, crochet and mesh invade catwalks and shop windows without distinguishing garments, although dresses, skirts and tops are especially starring. This time they come with appliqués of flowers, stars and hearts that work like gems. In the history of every summer there are always certain garments that remain in the popular memory for their role. In the 2023 that is yet to be written, this stardom will be divided by three.
First of all, it will be the time of the printed dresses. “The particularity is that this time they are long, wider and with different necklines, even with openings on the belly and back,” describes Napolillo. The “cut outs” (cuts in garments on the skin) are a vital key this season, as well as the asymmetrical openwork.
Then, the short, which does not lose its validity. But of course, adapted to each age and style. Thus, for the most teens it will be well adjusted, short and generally white or silver. And for subsequent years, the range of measurements and widths opens up, although they always respect 10 centimeters above the knee, with booties and not tight and to the body. “Shorts have never been seen so much at all times,” points out the curator of Marie Claire.
And as for swimsuits, the all-summer hit, the fashion that dominates them is vintage: there will be a return of full versions with a square neckline and a predominance of black and white. According to Napolillo, the bikinis change to two pieces, with high panties and very retro.
For Gurmandi, other garments that cannot be missing from this season’s wardrobe are the corset (in all kinds of materials, especially denim), the motorcycle jacket, the crop tops and the metallic pants, especially in silver, green and turquoise. Fact about this: even the charges can turn to metal or satin.

Finally, some trends leave so that others can enter to renew the air of what is used. This is the case of slippers, which little by little are losing their scepter at the hands of sandals and flip flops. “But not the Havaianas style, but the leather flip flops. These are all the rage this summer and the next”, says Napolillo.
The wide straps that dominated other years are also in decline at the hands of the “flossing” trend, which appeals to dental floss and presents super-fine straps on dresses and tops (another trend that comes straight from the ’90s).
As for materials, eco-leather remains in force, visible in pants -this time wider than usual-, jackets with cutouts and padded sleeves, in black or chocolate. And what used to be called “morley” and today is “ribbed” is presented in halter neck dresses and asymmetrical tops.
Other rising trends? The fringes, ready to dance with great impact. They are seen on sleeves, waists, skirts and hems. And the floral prints, which go from classic garments to the 3D of handbags and various accessories. Also the draping, visible in dresses, pants, miniskirts and tops.
In general, the colors that enter are silver, violet, blue, lime green and orange, although there is a special fanaticism for pink, prompted by the upcoming release of the Barbie movie. And what never left but this time deepens are the transparencies, increasingly bold and explicit. In this case, mainly on a black base. “A see-through skirt with a bit of glitter became very famous,” Gurmandi describes. Wearing this trend in pants is another resounding yes, which is perfectly combined with blazers, the initial garment on this list that puts the finishing touch on summer.
