After a five-year hiatus, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show returns with a new concept. The US lingerie brand’s most controversial event will be resurrected this fall in a film called the Victoria’s Secret World Tour.
For the “Victoria’s Secret World Tour”, the former “angels” of the brand are giving way to the new concept of the VS20, a group of 20 creative people from all over the world. They will present four collections as part of the film in the cities of Bogotá, Lagos, London and Tokyo, Victoria’s Secret announced on Tuesday. In addition to the designs of the VS20, the underwear brand’s own designs will also be shown.
As with previous Victoria’s Secret Fashion Shows, the World Tour will bring together fashion, film, design and music. Whether well-known elements such as the angel wings, which gave the former Victoria’s Secret models their nicknames, will be part of the game again is still unclear.
“This film is the ultimate expression of Victoria’s Secret brand transformation,” said Raúl Martinez, Head Creative Director at Victoria’s Secret & Co. “It’s driven by fashion, glamor and entertainment, with a nod to the beloved iconography of the past, but in a daring, reimagined way.”
From 1995 to 2018, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was an annual, top-class spectacle in which top models such as Gisele Bundchen, Adriana Lima and Heidi Klum walked the catwalk in the brand’s elaborately staged underwear. While the show was hugely popular in the early 2000s, the concept of “angels” and the lack of inclusion and body diversity on the Victoria’s Secret runway have come under increasing criticism in recent years. In 2019, the show was shelved indefinitely.
