Gunter U., the 37-year-old former student who confessed to the murder of Miss Mieke, did not go to the police himself. “He was cornered. He knew he would be exposed. He therefore opted for the flight ahead,” says our judicial journalist Faroek Özgünes. Nothing is known about the motive of the suspected perpetrator, but “if you know that Miss Mieke was killed with 101 stabbings, you know that there was a lot of anger and frustration, a lot of emotion,” said Özgünes.
