Farmers visit Valkenswaard council meeting, express anger

A large group of farmers called for peaceful attention to the nitrogen problems at the municipal council meeting in Valkenswaard on Thursday evening. They came with tractors to the town hall. The farmers drove around the building honking their horns and entered the town hall, where the new college of mayor and aldermen was sworn in.

They spoke to the drivers in the lobby. According to Valkenswaard24 they gave the college some presents. “On behalf of the farmers of Valkenswaard, we would like to congratulate you on your appointment”, they said the farmers according to the local medium.

“There is also anger among the farmers here in Valkenswaard. We wanted to make that known to you. We hope that you will cherish the farmers in the next four years. Use your common sense, I would say.”

After that, they quickly left and drove to the Market together, says a 112 correspondent. A police car monitored the situation from a distance.

Around half past nine the farmers went home again. It is unclear whether the farmers had announced their action to the municipality. The spokesperson could not be reached on Thursday evening.
