Farmers come to the rescue of 250 homeless goats Klompenhoeve: half move to Friesland

The goats of the Klompenhoeve have been saved. In addition to farmer Theo Dekker from Schagerbrug, a farmer from Friesland has also reported. He takes over the 150 goats that are still in Noordbeemster. “They will move there in two weeks,” says Roos Slot of Esdége Reigersdaal.

Two weeks ago, the 250 goats of the Klompenhoeve in Egmond aan den Hoef became homeless. A large fire breaks out at night on the grounds of the care location the barn completely in ashes. Miraculously, all animals survive.

One hundred of the goats can stay temporarily at farmer Theo Dekker in Schagerbrug. The other 150, of which 50 kids, are allowed to stand in the yard of a farm in Noordbeemster.

Closure of livestock farming

Before the fire, it was already announced that care institution Esdégé Reigersdaal the livestock and dairy department of the Klompenhoeve will close. Those departments would no longer be profitable for several years, despite the fact that the products are on the shelves of organic stores throughout the country.

After this news of the closure, the search for a new owner has been going on for weeks. The devastating fire puts extra pressure on the kettle, and finding a new home for 250 goats proves to be a difficult task.

A concerned employee of the Klompenhoeve, who wishes to remain anonymous, was afraid that finding a new home would become an impossible task. He even feared slaughter, because their health would not have been checked for years. “That would be a disaster for clients, who love the goats and often have a favorite animal,” he said earlier this week.

Very healthy

But then farmer Theo from Schagerbrug makes a decision. He has the goats checked and they appear to be perfectly healthy. “We have worked very hard in recent weeks to provide the animals with a good and safe home and are healthy, so they stay here.”

For half of the goats, the move is therefore already over. The other half has now also been tested and will be moved to Wyns in Friesland in two weeks, says Roos Slot van Reigersdaal. “There is a farmer with a new stable and a lot of room for expansion. “In two weeks the first 100 adult goats will move. The young goats will move a little later.”
