Farmers, citizens and secured seats: the water boards are more political than ever

There will be elections in the Netherlands again in less than four works. Not only for the Provincial Council, but also for the water boards. The latter are becoming increasingly important now that the climate is changing and the Netherlands is struggling with periods of extreme drought or a lot of flooding.

In this issue of The Hague we are talking about those water boards. Titia Ketelaar and Eppo König explain how they have become increasingly political. And you will hear how it is again with the distribution of seats. What the water boards are about and what political tricks were involved in making part of the guaranteed seats – permanent seats for companies, farmers and nature organizations – disappear from the water boards.
