The A67 between Eindhoven and Venlo will be blocked by farmers on Monday near Liessel in North Brabant. That is why the highway in the direction of Venlo is closed.
Rijkswaterstaat reports to NU.nl that the police were quickly on site and will intervene. Initially, the farmers will be asked to leave, according to a police spokesman. In extreme cases, the tractors will be towed away. Earlier, Rijkswaterstaat said it would immediately call the police if tractors were to drive on the highways.
According to the police, there are dozens of tractors on the highway. Straw bales are also thrown on the road. Due to the blockade, a large traffic jam has already arisen.
Liessel is located in the middle of the Peel, one of the nature reserves where significant intervention is required in accordance with the cabinet’s nitrogen plans. Nitrogen emissions in the Peel must be reduced by 70 to 80 percent.
It Eindhovens Dagblad reports that farmers are also gathering in Schaijk with tractors and other vehicles. As a precautionary measure, the Mobile Unit (ME) has been called up in East Brabant to be on standby.
Farmers already announced new actions
Last Wednesday, many thousands of farmers already demonstrated in Stroe, Gelderland, against the cabinet’s nitrogen plans. On Friday there were smaller actions in various places.
Chairman Mark van den Oever of the action group Farmers Defense Force (FDF) already announced “wild actions”, which would start on Monday from 12 noon. According to Van den Oever, the demonstration in Stroe “didn’t help at all” and the supporters are “calling to throw in the punch”.
The actions are not centrally organized or coordinated by action groups such as FDF or Agractie. The groups are therefore aware of the actions.
