Bertie thinks many farmers know “how scary it can be” to have strange people in your yard. According to her, farmers regularly have to deal with animal activists who make an unannounced visit, so they should know better. “Then I think: take action in the right way. And not like that.”
Bertie also finds it difficult to determine what exactly is the right way. “You start to wonder how you can still reach The Hague. These are acts of desperation, because you have the idea that they are not listening.” Bertie himself also demonstrated, but with a number of tractors along the side of the road. “A lot of people honking their horns came by and supported us and gave us their thumbs up.”
Blocking roads and thus creating dangerous situations is certainly not the right way, according to the farmer’s wife. “I understand the emotion, but you meet people who can’t do anything about it.”
