Starting tomorrow, the NH Media Expedition Noord-Holland series will focus on the agricultural sector and food supply for four episodes. Together with young Amsterdam farmer Ayoub Louirhani, we dive into the diverse world of farming life in our province. The Expedition Noord-Holland series is the opportunity for Ayoub to learn more about the agricultural profession.
Do we still realize where our food comes from? Will we eat and produce differently in the future? Ayoub is curious and will look for answers in the near future! NH Nieuws spoke to him about his passion for farmers.
Where does your passion for animals and farmers come from?
“It started in high school when I was still looking for exactly what I wanted in my life. I had a teacher and she was a farmer’s daughter. I wondered how farming life was and then she told me to do an internship at a farm.”
“I then called a few farms and that’s how I ended up with farmer Jan. I now call him my farmer’s father. I cleaned out calf pens for two weeks. Later on my training I found out that that is the worst job to do, but I liked it. Nice physical activity at my own pace. And the calves started to recognize me. It calmed me down.”
You have a lot of followers on Facebook. How has your environment reacted to this?
“I am the first boy of Moroccan origin who has become a farmer with an education. My environment still sees me the same. I have been busier lately. It is what it is.”

Together with presenter and director Koen Bugter, he has now started the Expedition Noord-Holland series. How’s that for you?
“I’ve had four shooting days with him now and they were four fun days. They were long days, but the time went so fast. We have put together a top program. I think a lot of people will like it.”
What exactly do we see in the series?
“We see where the food comes from and how sustainable North Holland is. What I liked the most is that we are the world leader with many small projects in North Holland.
For example, we were at a lettuce farmer who grew his lettuce on water, floors high. I come from dairy farming and to grow plants like that I really liked to see.”
What do you want to show with the series?
“I want to strengthen the bond between farmer and city. That people come together. Go to farmers and give each other a hug. Understand each other. That is my mission.”
“My ultimate dream is to have my own farm. Within ten years I want to have it done. I believe that I will get there.”
The Noord-Holland Expedition series can be seen on the NH Nieuws YouTube channel from Saturday 26 February and can be seen on the television channel at 5.10 p.m. and 5.40 p.m. They can also be viewed on this page†
