Farmer Ayoub in Expedition Noord-Holland podcast: ‘As punishment I had to go with a fishing boat’

Farmer Ayoub can not only be seen at NH Nieuws in the four-part series Expedition North Holland with Ayoub, but can also be heard in the podcast of the same name. In this candid podcast, made by presenter and director Koen Bugter, Ayoub lets us look even more into his soul. In the fourth final episode Ayoub tells, among other things, about how his parents sent him to a fishing boat as punishment: “We lived on water and bread for a week.”

Media attention

Ayoub has received a lot of media attention lately and looks back in the podcast on an earlier interview with Maxim Hartman. “I did look at weird questions every now and then,” he recalls. “It works very well for him. Otherwise he wouldn’t be asked. You want to interview me, I’ll answer my way. If you want to play it, we play it, but then people have to know. myself anyway.”

Punishment expedition on a fishing boat

But Ayoub also looks back further, to his teenage years. According to his parents, he had once crossed the line when he was sixteen. He was sent on a punitive expedition. “I was on a fishing boat. For a week, on a fishing boat from my grandfather’s factory. I had to get on the boat as punishment. Across the Atlantic. Among the sailors, there I learned to appreciate people. I find it now don’t mind paying extra for my fish.”

The boat trip made Ayoub admire the fishermen. “They work hard. They even worked at night with little food. They were real sailors. I slept as much as possible, but when there was work to be done, I was there.”

“The fishermen are super strong, while they don’t look like that. They can live on little. We only ate bread and drank water. And tea. No hot food. Not the raw fish and there was no time to do that. barbecue. It was a wonderful experience. I would send my child too.”

Satisfying

During our latest podcast, farmer Ayoub lets us know that he is grateful in life. “It strikes me that many people are not grateful. They just want more luxury. I am grateful that I have a new jacket, heated seats and that I could get up again this morning.”
