Farmer Arjen Schuiling from Tynaarlo party leader BVNL in Drenthe

Farmer Arjen Schuiling from Tynaarlo will be the party leader for the Provincial elections for the Interest of the Netherlands (BVNL), the new party of Member of Parliament Wybren van Haga. Schuiling became widely known for his part during the farmers’ protests on 1 and 14 October 2019 in Groningen. Then, as a co-driver, he was on a tractor that knocked over several fences and almost hit a cyclist on the Grote Markt.

“We farmers are being chased from our land under the guise of a created nitrogen problem,” says Schuiling. “The rigidity of the Provincial Council is appalling. Instead of offering farmers a helping hand, they dutifully implement the plans from The Hague, which were disastrous for farmers.”

Schuiling argues that BVNL is the only party that wants nitrogen policy to be completely off the table. “It is therefore important that BVNL becomes a significant factor in the Provincial Council, because other parties are bowing to Johan Remkes’ report, where the expropriation of farmers is rigorously continued.”

From The Hague, party leader Wybren van Haga reacts enthusiastically to Schuiling’s leadership. “Arjen is a fighter who stands up to fire and sword for farmers whose survival is threatened by crazy cabinet policy. I am convinced that BVNL will win the necessary seats with Arjen as party leader.”
