Farmer Anton removed cars from the mud of the Paaspop parking lot all night long

Farmer Anton always keeps his spirits up. Even if the heavy rain causes great chaos on his meadows around Paaspop in Schijndel. Thursday evening thousands of people were stuck in the mud and Friday will be no different. “Grassland is like a sponge and you can’t drive on it,” says farmer Anton.

His phone rings incessantly. Farmer Anton, who has been making sure people can park on the fields around the festival for fifteen years, cannot be shaken.

“My phone will sometimes stop on Monday evening”, he laughs. “The weather will also get better at the weekend, but it was a drama last night. I’ve been doing this for fifteen years, but this is the worst edition. I slept maybe three quarters of an hour.”

Farmer Anton has been dragging cars out of the mud all night with his tractor. “The last one at a quarter past four. Then everyone who wanted to leave was really off the land. Some have taken a taxi and will pick up the car today.”

Anton shrugs his shoulders at the complaints. “95 percent of people have had a great festival and know that this can happen. “We can blame the weather gods, but it is what it is. You can’t change the weather. As a farmer you stop when it rains, but that is not possible with a festival.”

“An outdoor festival depends on the weather. Once every five or six years you have a wet edition. Just look at 7th Sunday last year. 70 millimeters of rain fell there. An alternative is a festival on an industrial estate, but you have no atmosphere there.”

The organization is not going to let more road plates and wood chips arrive. “No, then a parking card will cost 100 – 150 euros. That’s getting too crazy. Tonight there are already 30,000 euros worth of road plates.”

The organization of Paaspop calls on everyone to use the shuttle buses from Den Bosch station as much as possible. The parking fields are open, but the organization warns that parking around the festival site takes more time than usual.
