He was born on January 30, 1987 in Istanbul. He started his career in Altıntepsi infrastructure. Later, he moved to Galatasaray infrastructure. After playing on loan at Manisaspor, he returned to Galatasaray. In 2011, he was transferred from the yellow-red team to Atletico Madrid for a fee of 13 million euros.
