The gold medal was Nurminen’s first adult series World Cup medal.

– I’ve probably never been so nervous before the race as I was today. I had somehow piled up the pressure of success on myself thanks to the victories in the youth series, and then the harder level of these adult series made me think. When the race started, however, I managed to keep the package together, Nurminen said in the press release of the Orienteering Association.

– The track was versatile and challenging, it required all kinds of driving and navigation skills. It was not a perfect race, as there were some stops and reports. But it clearly paid off on this track in a few places, and I didn’t make any big mistakes. I was still surprised how overwhelmingly I managed to win, he continued.

Another Finn was finally seen with the medals, when Henna Saarinen got the World Championship bronze in the sprint competition

Saarinen took the bronze one and a half minutes ahead of Nurmin. The conditions of the race in the Jičín region were demanding, as it was 30 degrees.
