More than a thousand frenzied fans gave the players a festive welcome at the Fortuna Sittard Stadium on Sunday evening after the won game against NEC. The people of Sittard are therefore assured of another year in the Eredivisie.
The team bus arrived in Sittard around 7:30 PM. More than a thousand supporters had gathered there to celebrate the enforcement with the players.
Never experienced
Young and old did not want to miss that moment. An exuberant atmosphere, fireworks and everyone is happy. For a young fan, the day took on a golden edge when he received the goalkeeper gloves from Yanick van Osch. The players of the Sittard club did not know what hit them. “Unbelievable, I’ve never experienced this. You only see these kinds of scenes when you become a champion,” reacts attacker Zian Flemming.
All club songs sung
The players stood on the double-decker bus for 45 minutes. All Sittard club songs were sung along with the fans. Zian Flemming, who scored the only goal, was the trendsetter by shouting lyrics through the megaphone. The attacker scored the winning goal with his twelfth goal of the season.
Fortuna won 1-0 against the Nijmegen team on Sunday afternoon and that was enough to continue to play as the only Limburg club in the Eredivisie next season.
