‘Fan day? You were gone straight away!’

Wilfred Genee finds it a bit strange that Johan Derksen embraces the idea for a non-commercial Today Inside fan day. “You were the only one in the car right after the Ziggo Dome!”

It seems that Today Inside is starting to overplay its hand a bit when it comes to commercial extra income. They talk a lot about the cashier of the Hazes empire, but her bath slippers and kites pale in comparison to all the merchandise that Wilfred Genee throws on the table every episode. And just cash, cash, cash.

Johan wants a fan day

Media critic Victor Vlam believes that it would be to the men’s advantage if they did not try to exploit their viewers to the maximum, but also showed real appreciation for their fandom. According to him, this could be done in the form of an interactive fan day, where people can also have their picture taken with Johan Derksen, René van der Gijp and Wilfred.

It appeals to Johan; he is dissatisfied with last Sunday’s mass event in the Ziggo Dome. The most avid viewers had to pay the top price for tickets, the rest of the tickets were dumped on an auction site. It’s all starting to feel a bit too commercial for the football connoisseur and he suits that.

“You’re in the car!”

Johan doesn’t want this anymore, he says in the Today Inside from last night. “If you want to do something like that for your people, right… We have a loyal following and that’s a bit of an ugly word, but then organize a fan day. Look, we hardly see those people. The people who come there specifically.”

Wilfred Genee finds that very strange, because according to him, Johan did not even look at the people in the Ziggo Dome. “We see people here every evening, right? And there… You were right in the car, I just went downstairs, René went downstairs, Hélène stood there for a long time.”

In the picture

Johan is shocked by this attack. “Have you had your picture taken with 12,000 people?”

René van der Gijp: “Well, a lot.”

Johan Derksen: “I will no longer participate.”

Then merchandise master Wilfred throws some masks on the table for people to buy. Johan: “These are things that commerce comes up with.”

Table guest Albert Verlinde does not understand this Ziggo event anyway: “I always find it strange… Then people buy tickets for a lot of money and then they look at a monitor all the time. I find that so idiotic.”

For his wages

You can tell from Wilfred that he doesn’t like Johan criticizing the Ziggo evening like this. “The essence is still… Look, and I really think so, Johan: I spoke to a lot of people afterwards, they had a world-class evening. (…) I assume you don’t need your wages either, or do you?”

Johan: “Well, I’m not going to sit there for my salary, because I would have liked to hand in that salary, that’s no problem at all, but I think that’s our format… We have a small format with people who are on your neck. panting, but I don’t think that fits in such a large hall. I also think it is borderline delusional to do something like that.”
