That January of 1997 was marked in the history of Argentine journalism by the crime of the NEWS photographer, Jose Luis Cabezaskilled at the hands of the gang “The Horneros”. The criminals, aligned with the businessman Alfredo Yabran, Cabezas was murdered after he took a photo of the dark businessman, who until then evaded the cameras. But although Yabrán was the character that occupied Cabezas the most that summer, in parallel there were more than a dozen articles and photographs of important personalities from entertainment and politics.
For example, the mayor of pinamar from that moment, Blas Altieri, who was also a friend of Alfredo Yabrán. According to what he told in the interview with NEWS, Altieri mediated between Yabrán and the sectors that had an interest in the real estate development of the spa. In the report, the journalistic team asked him about the suspicions about the origin of the businessman’s fortune: “I don’t like that easy money story. Because when easy money is earned, no one disputes interest. And Alfredo Yabrán discusses everything. And too much! It’s very hard, ”was his response.
Another of the last notes, Cabezas photographed Alberto Pierri, who at that time was the president of the Chamber of Deputies of the Nation. Gabriel Michi, a journalist for NOTICIAS and a colleague of José Luís Cabezas, recounted: “It had been a long time since he had given interviews to NOTICIAS because he had a very strong conflict with the magazine. I remember that when José Luis was taking the photos I made a joke and told him that he was going to be the cover character. Pierri got angry because, in general, whoever appeared on the cover didn’t look good and he knocked over the chair in which he was posing. I told him it was a joke, but José Luis almost killed me because the interruption was in the middle of a photographic session”.
Other characters from the world of politics captured by Cabezas that summer were eduardo duhaldewho was in the middle of a soccer game with other provincial leaders of the stature of Carlos Ruckauf.
Also the model Natalia Gracianowho was just beginning her career in the world of modeling and wanted to venture into the advertising sector as a businesswoman.
Cabezas also portrayed another model of the moment, Natalia Rackiewicz, whose fame exploded after starring in a commercial for a car brand. The model was photographed on the tracks of a train.
There were also intellectuals like the philosopher Mario Bunge, who in those days stepped foot in Pinamar for the first time despite being the nephew of the founder of the spa. He was photographed by Cabezas by the sea. “The places that favor creative leisure are those where there is not much social life,” declared the intellectual.
