M.amme dressed like daughters, daughters en pendant with mothers. A few years ago the prestigious Wall Street Journal questioned whether or not it was appropriate, from an economic but also a psychological point of view, to “join” for families (especially famous couples moms and daughters) in the prevailing fashion of “matchy matchy”.
Sure, Mother’s Day or not, the reflection arises spontaneously: for the stars who sponsor famous brands there are many advantages in terms of image and marketing, but for ordinary people what meaning can it take? Psychology aside, for some years now it has been a real trend and deserves further study.
The mini-me trend
Trend relaunched by Chiara Ferragni in Italy (often with clothes of her namesake brand), the fashion of “Mini-me look” is beloved by overseas stars. So much so that some world-famous celebs (such as Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian) who had several thousand dollar luxury creations made almost identical to theirs for their daughters for red carpet & co.
The fashion of the mini me look, in fact, continues unstoppable – also fueled by the arrival of collections specially designed by international designers for the little ones. Thus, it happens more and more often that the stars show up on the red carpet accompanied by their daughters in a coordinated look. In truth, it’s nothing new, the process is almost natural and draws on an evergreen Lady Diana who loved wearing sweatshirts and suits to match her William and Henry.
Beyoncé’s investments
American stars are the ones who exceed most often, both for their looks and those of their daughters. An example above all? Blue Ivy Carter, daughter of Beyoncé and Jay-Z, has for some years been at the top of the ranking of the richest children in the world. And mom Beyoncé loves having tailor-made dresses made for her. Often identical to hers.
On the occasion of Mother’s Day 2017, for example, Beyoncè published a shot on Instagram that immortalizes her and the little Blue Ivy with the same Dolce & Gabbana floral chiffon dress worth $ 5,395. But the most striking example was the look created for the MTV Music Awards that same year. Beyoncé did realize from the stylist Mischka Aoki a princess dress with a tulle train for her daughter, not very different from hers worth $ 10,000.
Famous moms and daughters in matchy matchy looks
Similar figures were spent on the looks of North West wanted by Kim Kardashian: like the iconic silver lurex dress made for them by Thierry Mugler. Pop stars aside, matchy matchy mom and daughter fans are everywhere. And they consolidate the relationship (also) at the media level. Just think of the much talked about black and white mirror look of Meghan Markle and mom Doria Ragland in 2018, precisely at the highlight of the approach to the palace.
But we could list very many: from Madonna and daughter Lourdes (great lovers of black trine, leather, lace) a Lily-Rose Depp and mom Vanessa Paradis. Until Kaia Gerber and mom Cindy Crawford, fans on the red carpet of long, light, colorful and strictly matching dresses.
