Actually, Marta Bassino would have started as one of the favorites in the Super G at the World Cup in Kvitfjell. But the Italian alpine skiing star left Norway prematurely because of a family tragedy.
As the “spornews.bz” portal reports, Bassino’s sister-in-law Sara Fina died unexpectedly. Her husband Matteo Bassino found her lifeless in bed on Thursday morning. A heart attack is suspected, but there is still no official cause of death.
Sara Fina celebrated her 30th birthday on Wednesday. In addition to her husband, she also leaves two children.
In her hometown of Borgo San Dalmazzo, the dismay is great. Sara Fina ran a sheep farm there with Matteo Bassino and they are well-known and popular in the village.
The sudden death also causes grief in the sports world. The young mother was once active as a cross-country skier and also competed in lower-level races.
