Family in reconstruction accident in which Helmonder (36) was killed by a car

On Saturday night, the police made a reconstruction of the fatal accident on the A15 in Rotterdam, in which a 36-year-old man from Helmond was killed on Boxing Day last year. A 35-year-old woman and a 7-year-old girl from Spijkenisse also died in the accident. The relatives of the surviving relatives were present during the reconstruction.

The police checked on Saturday night whether the detection loops at the scene of the accident are working properly. This way it can be determined how fast the suspect was driving that collided with the victims’ car, the NOS. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) suspects that the 600 meters before the accident drove 176 kilometers per hour.

Drink three times too much
29-year-old Suraj A. from The Hague is suspected of triple manslaughter. He would have drunk three times too much alcohol. Early on Boxing Day, he ran a red light at high speed and killed the young family.

“The young family didn’t stand a chance. The initial investigation has shown that the suspect must have driven at least 133 km per hour at the time of the collision,” said the Public Prosecution Service (OM).

Suspect seriously injured
Suraj A. was seriously injured, he says he cannot remember anything about the accident. In court, his lawyer said that the driver is very sorry.

The next trial day is June 20, but the case will not be discussed substantively.
